Needlepunch

Fibre is carded, cross-laid in laps and then passed through a needle-loom that uses barbed needles to "knot" the fibre and bond it together to produce needlefelt. Often a carrier or "scrim" is used to add strength to the felt or simply as a manufacturing aid.

Air-laid and Bonded

Fibre is random-laid using an air stream to produce a thick lap, which is then passed through an immersion tank of "binder". The binder acts as a glue to hold the fibre together. The fibre and binder is then passed through a large oven to drive away any excess water and to cure the binder giving a strong bond.

Needlepunch and Bonded

Needlefelt is manufactured then coated on one or both sides to give added strength and other required properties.

Cutting, Slitting and Pressing
